     Lambda Chi Alpha

Warren A. Cole, a student at Boston University, had a vision of a new fraternal organization that would seek to promote higher education by providing opportunities for leadership and academic achievement. While some would be daunted by the challenge, Cole found a group of eager, like-minded friends, so he pushed forth, and on November 2, 1909, his vision was realized through the founding of Lambda Chi Alpha (Lambda Chi).

One of the largest men’s fraternities in North America, Lambda Chi has initiated more than 275,000 members and holds nearly 200 active chapters at colleges and universities. Counted among ranks are many Brothers who have gone on to successful careers in music, government, and business, including Kenny Chesney (East Tennessee State; Singer), Edward R. Book (Penn State; President/CEO, Hershey Corp.), Kurt Williams (Missouri; Producer; Rise of the Planet of the Apes & Incredible Hulk), and Harry S. Truman (Missouri; former U.S. President). With Brothers like these, it is easy to see why so many men want to wear the Lambda Chi purple, green, and gold!

Lambda Chis proudly serve their communities each year through the North American Food Drive, which has become the largest single-day philanthropic project sponsored by a collegiate organization. Since its start on November 6, 1993, the North American Food Drive has collected more than 33 million pounds of food for the needy and disadvantaged. The North American Food Drive has been so successful that Lambda Chi became the first fraternity to receive the Summit Award from the American Society of Association Executives in 1995, an award presented annually to associations nationwide as part of its Associations Advance America Program. While this is impressive on its own, Lambda Chi went on to win the award for its second time in 2005!

These endeavors may seem beyond the grasp of many, but not for Lambda Chis, with their crescent-shaped Badge inspiring all to shoot for the moon. Continually holding themselves to a higher standard and expressing a genuine concern for their fellow man, the Brothers of Lambda Chi Alpha uphold the ideals of their founder and embrace their motto, “Every Man a Man.”
