Sigma Alpha Epsilon
What is now the largest North American Greek-letter social fraternity, started out with only eight friends at the University of Alabama, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on March 9, 1856. These eight men were united by the common goal of creating an organization based upon the highest standards of friendship, scholarship, and service, all qualities they felt should be embodied by “a true gentleman.” Though founded during a tumultuous time in our nation’s history, the bonds of brotherhood proved strong in the proud members of Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE).
