Kappa Alpha Founders' Day

Founded in 1865 at Washington College, with headquarters in Lexington, Virginia, Kappa Alpha Order has a rich legacy. The organization boasts over 150,000 lifetime members, including 7,600 current undergraduate members in 133 chapters throughout the United States and Canada. Kappa Alpha members strive to embody the values of reverence, gentility, knowledge, leadership, brotherhood and excellence. In pursuit of these qualities, many brothers have achieved great success after their time in the fraternity.

Pat Boone

Pat Boone holds many titles as a singer, composer, actor, writer, television personality, motivational speaker and more. He earned much of his fame in the 1950s and 60s, at one point claiming the title of the second biggest charting artist in the United States behind only Elvis Presley. He previously held a Billboard record for 220 consecutive weeks on the charts, and has also appeared in films such as 1957’s April Love . Before his commercial success, he became a Kappa Alpha brother at the University of North Texas.

Zac Brown

Brown is best known for his role as the lead vocalist and guitarist of the Zac Brown Band , a popular country music group. 13 of their singles have reached number 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. Brown is also a part of the electronic dance music band Sir Rosevelt. He was born in Cumming, Georgia, where he developed a love for bluegrass music. Later, he attended the University of West Georgia and became a KA brother. 

Bill Lee

Lee was born in Franklin, Tennessee and spent his early years on his family’s 1,000 acre cattle farm. He later attended Auburn University where he became a Kappa Alpha brother and earned a degree in mechanical engineering. In 2018, he launched his campaign to be the governor of Tennessee, won, and was sworn in in 2019. During his time as governor he has tackled many national issues, and has announced plans to run for reelection in 2022. 

Tony Azevedo

Azevedo was born in Rio de Janeiro, but moved to the United States with his family at just one month old. His father, Ricardo Azevedo, is a former Olympic water polo player, a sport that Tony went on to excel in as well. He attended Stanford University, where he led the men’s water polo team to 2 NCAA championships, and joined Kappa Alpha Order. He has competed in the 2000, 2004, 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics, winning silver in 2008.

Tommy Aaron

Aaron is a renowned former professional golfer who was a member of the PGA tour in the 1960s, 70s and 80s. He was born in Gainesville, Georgia and began playing golf at age 12, where he established many early victories despite not even having a golf course in his hometown. He attended the University of Florida, where he joined Kappa Alpha and achieved a successful college golfing career, becoming an All-American in 1958 and 1959. He went pro in 1960, and secured his most well-known victory at the 1973 Master’s Tournament.
